Lee Roy Selmon has a tradition that blends family scholarship football and volunteering for the community. He was the eldest child of Lucious Selmon and Jessie Semon. They took care of him at their property in Eufala. On the football field, he competed with his three brothers from Oklahoma. Three of them were All-Americans. One year 1973 Lucious Jr. Dewey and Lee Roy were starters. Lee Roy received the Outland & Lombardi Awards for being the best lineman in the nation. Through his three seasons as the Oklahoma's starting line-up The Sooners finished three-and-a-half and won two championships. On his third scholarship, he was named the National Football Foundation Scholar-Athlete in 1975. Selmon earned a bachelor's in the field of education. Lee Roy dedicated ten volunteer hours per week during college. Following college, he moved to Tampa playing nine years for the Buccaneers played all-pro three times, before beginning a new business career. In 1988 he took on the role of account manager for Tampa's First Florida Bank. He as well worked for the following associations: Special Olympics Easter Seals Baptist Church Ronald McDonald House United Negro College Fund South Florida Institute Black Life Hall of Fame Bowl Committee. It's no wonder In 1982 the Junior Chamber of Commerce named him one of the nation's most outstanding young men. Lee Roy stood 6-2 in height and weighed 256 pounds in his college days. He captained the 1975 team. He joined as a director at University of South Florida as associate director of athletics. In 1988 the year he was a member of the College Football Hall of Fame. In addition, he was inducted into an appearance in the GTE Academic All-America Hall of Fame as well as the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Parents, Lucious and Mary Selmon Jr. have been awarded the Distinguished American Award in 1989 from the Oklahoma City Chapter National Football Foundation. Henry Bellmon was the Oklahoma Governor that presented the award.
